TAILINGS DUMP

The tailings dump, which has a high salt content, is to be covered by suitable minerals, such as building rubble and excavated earth in order to prevent saline precipitation water penetrating into the receiving water and the near-surface water.

The creation of multiple layers will isolate the tailings by breaking the capillaries connecting the contouring and the additional layers containing the substrate. The planting of grass etc, will ensure that rainfall is absorbed and transpired by the plants before the water can come into contact with the saline tailings and become saturated.
